10) Closing Day and Getting the Keys

You’re almost there! Closing day is the moment you’ve been working toward throughout the entire homebuying process. Before everything is finalized, you’ll typically have a final walkthrough to make sure the property is in the agreed-upon condition and any negotiated repairs have been completed.

Once all documents are signed, the lender has funded the loan, and the deed has been recorded with the county, the purchase is officially complete. In California, recording is an important milestone because it officially transfers ownership to you. Your escrow officer or real estate agent will let you know when it’s time to receive your keys.

After closing, remember to arrange utilities, update your mailing address, secure the property, and familiarize yourself with your new home’s systems and features.
